Verbascum
Scientific Name : Verbascum x hybrida 'Southern Charm
Appearance : Verbascum 'Southern Charm' is a charming perennial known for its stunning display of soft, pastel-coloured flowers. This hybrid variety produces tall, slender spikes adorned with blooms in shades of creamy yellow, soft pink, and lavender. The flowers have a delicate, crinkled appearance and are accentuated by darker centres, creating a beautiful contrast.
Planting : Thrives in well-drained soil. It tolerates poor, sandy, or rocky soils but benefits from the addition of organic matter. Space plants around 30cm apart to allow for good air circulation and growth
Sun preference : Prefers full sun to light shade. For best flowering, plant in a location that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Plant Type : Perennial
Harvesting : Cut the flowers when two-thirds of the flowers on the stem have opened.
Vase Life : 4 – 5 days. These are an extremely delicate flower. They will keep coming back as a prolific producer. They are best in the garden as they bloom continually from Spring to late Summer. I however cannot resist them and love them in arrangements for events.
Special Features : Southern Charm' blooms from late spring to mid-summer, providing a prolonged period of colour and beauty in the garden. The flowers are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it a great addition to a pollinator-friendly garden. Once established, this Verbascum variety is relatively drought-tolerant, making it a low-maintenance choice for gardens in dry regions.
Design features: I love these flowers in vase arrangements as a line flower. I also love to press the delicate flowers for our pressed flower frame range.
