Celosia Flamingo Feather

Scientific Name: Celosia argentea

Planing: Height: Celosia plants typically grow between 60-90 cm (24-36 inches) tall. This height range makes them suitable for both container gardening and growing in garden beds.

Days to Maturity: Celosia takes approximately 90-100 days from planting to maturity. During this period, the plants will develop their distinctive plume or cockscomb flowers.

Plant Spacing: When planting Celosia, it’s essential to maintain a proper spacing of about 15 cm (6 inches) between each plant. Proper spacing ensures that each plant receives adequate sunlight and nutrients for optimal growth.

Sun Preference: Celosia plants prefer full sun conditions, meaning they need at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. Providing ample sunlight will help the plants produce more flowers and maintain their vibrant colors.

Plant Type: Celosia is an annual plant, which means it completes its life cycle within one growing season. After blooming, the plants will die off and need to be replanted the following year.

Pinching: To encourage bushier growth and more flower production in Celosia plants, pinching is recommended when they reach a height of 15-20 cm (6-8 inches). Pinching involves removing the growing tip of the plant to promote branching and new growth. This practice results in denser plants with more flowers throughout the growing season.

Appearance: The Celosia ‘Flamingo Feather’ flower is one of the prettiest celosias available, characterized by airy and delicate pink plumes that gradually fade to blush as they mature. These flowers are reminiscent of pink Bunny Tails grass and are also known as wheat celosia. The plants are strongly branching, heat-loving, and produce feathery plumes that are ideal for bouquets and wedding arrangements.

Harvesting: Wait for Seed Heads to Dry: Allow the flower spikes to fully mature on the plant until they are dry. Once the seed heads are completely dry, you can collect the seeds by gently shaking or rubbing the flower spikes to release the tiny black seeds.: Place the collected seeds in a paper bag or wrap them in paper towels and store them in a plastic bag. Make sure to label the bag with the seed type and date of collection.

Vase life can be expected for 10-14 days

Dryable: Drying options include hanging upside down in a dark and warm area for 2-3 weeks.

Special Features: In conclusion, Celosia ‘Flamingo Feather’ stands out for its delicate pink plumes, colour transformation, resemblance to Bunny Tails grass, strong branching habit, heat tolerance, height, long vase life, and ease of cultivation.
