Butterfly Ranunculus

Scientific Name: Ranunculus asiaticus

Planting: Pre-sprouting enables growers to easily identify and weed out unhealthy or non-viable corms. This results in planting only healthy, robust corms, thereby saving valuable bed space. Pre-sprouting allows growers to start the growing process earlier than they would by directly planting after soaking. This head start gives the plants a better chance of thriving during unpredictable weather conditions and ensures optimal blooming times.90-100days to full maturity

Plant Spacing: 30cm / 12’’

Sun Preference : A unique variety of ranunculus, prefers lots of sun but high temperatures can make them go dormant. They thrive in mild winters and long cool springs. Full sun to partial shade .

Plant Type : Butterfly Ranunculus is a tender perennial flower.

Toxicity : All plants in the Ranunculaceae family, including ranunculus, are toxic to varying degrees. The plant material can cause skin irritation, sores, and blisters if crushed and applied. Ingesting ranunculus can lead to digestive issues. It’s essential to keep children, pets, and others away from these flowers to avoid any potential harm.

Appearance : The Butterfly Ranunculus flower is a unique variety known for its single-formed flowers with dainty, iridescent petals that have a sparkling appearance due to a tiny layer of natural wax. These flowers are distinct because each stem can carry twelve to fifteen flowers, making them visually striking and ideal for floral arrangements. The petals of the Butterfly Ranunculus have a delicate and airy texture, resembling butterfly wings, hence the name. They are available in various colours ranging from pale pink to softer shades like ballerina slipper pink, with the petals fading lighter as they age. The blooms continue to open even after being cut, and they have a long vase life of around two weeks or more.

Vase life :The vase life of butterfly ranunculus typically ranges from 7 to 14 days. To ensure that your butterfly ranunculus blooms last as long as possible, proper care and maintenance are Start by trimming at least 3-5cm off each stem at a 45° angle using scissors or a sharp knife. Daily stem trims help the flowers absorb water better and extend their vase life. Fill the vase with cool tap water after trimming the stems. Change the water daily to reduce bacterial growth, which can affect the longevity of the blooms. Consider adding flower food to the water to provide essential nutrients for the butterfly ranunculus. Alternatively, you can use Vodka which flowers simply love. Strip any foliage from the stems that will be below the waterline in the vase to prevent bacterial buildup and keep the water fresh. Keep the vase of butterfly ranunculus away from direct sunlight, heating vents, or radiators to maintain a consistent room temperature for optimal flower health.

Special Features : The petals of Butterfly Ranunculus have a delicate layer of natural wax coating. This wax gives the petals a sparkling appearance, adding to their beauty and making them visually appealing. Additionally, this wax coating contributes to the longevity of the flowers when used in arrangements or as cut flowers. Another notable feature of Butterfly Ranunculus is their extended vase life. Due to their unique characteristics, including the wax coating on the petals, these flowers can last longer when placed in vases or floral arrangements compared to some other varieties.

Design features: My favourite spring floating flower, however they are so striking I will often use these as a focal flower. They will also be fantastic supporting flowers as there are so many on a stem you can create your design triangles with your 3:5:8 design ratio
